With all the snazzy new gadgets on the market these days, you’d think there would be snazzy new ways to power them. Yet batteries still work much the way they did when Alessandro Volta made the first one way back in 1800. SRI International’s researchers are working to drag the 19th century’s anode, cathode and electrolyte ideas into the 21st century.
