VHS to DVD 5.0 DeluxeHonestech has recently released version 5 of their VHS to DVD conversion solution. We reviewed v3.0 and found a high quality product. Version 5 improves on it in a number of ways.

First of all, v5 (and v4) include support for 64-bit Windows 7. Version 5 also now has an RCA cable, new motion menus and you can include background music. Even better is its support for the iPad.

You still get the USB 2.0 capture device that you plug your source device into (video or audio) and then into your computer, and you also get the full-featured software that captures, converts and allows you to edit the audio/video. It also helps you to burn to DVDs and/or Blu-ray with custom menus or even upload to YouTube.

Apple iLife and OS X Updated

The 8th major version of Mac OS X was officially announced on 10/20/2010 at the Apple Media Special Event. Codenamed “Lion”, Jobs calls this release “OS X meets iPad” with features including multi-touch gestures, Mac App store, auto install apps, one-click download for apps, auto update, licensed for all personal Macs, app home screen called the Launchpad, full screen apps, auto save, auto resume and Mission Control which provides a dashboard of all spaces, apps and widgets running.

Verizon Wireless to sell iPad Oct 28th 2010

Yes, the title is correct, but hold on. This is not an iPad built for the Verizon CDMA network. It’s still the same iPad, but not the 3G model, just the WiFi versions.

Instead Verizon will bundle the iPad with their MiFi mobile hotspot device. So this way, you can get your iPad (and up to 4 other devices) connected to the Verizon data network.

Prices will look like this:

  • $629.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 16GB + MiFi
  • $729.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 32GB + MiFi
  • $829.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 64GB + MiFi.

You can get a monthly access plan of up to 1GB of data for $20 a month.

No Firefox for iPhone, but Firefox Home is the next best thing

Firefox HomeLove Firefox, but also love your iPhone. Wish there was a Firefox for the iPhone. Well sadly, according to Mozilla that doesn’t appear very likely.

However, there’s another app called Firefox Home that lets you get your Firefox history, bookmarks  and even open tabs on your iPhone. Firefox Home takes advantage of another Firefox tool called Sync that you can use to keep all of your various Firefox sessions nicely in touch with each other.

Car Home for Android improves your navigation

Car Home for Android

A new version of Car Home is out for Android 2.2.  It includes GPS navigation of course, but better still is voice-control and contacts list. The new version allows for more customization.

Although Google says its only available for Droid and the Nexus One, users (in the comments) are noting how they have gotten it to work on different handsets. Your mileage may vary of course.
