If you’re like me, then you awaken every day to an e-mail Inbox filled with at least 25+ new messages, and that’s not even counting the other messages that were already filtered to folders/labels. Those new messages come in all shapes and sizes, and more than a few are from commercial senders, such as banks, retailers, etc. And those messages continue to pour in throughout the day.
If you treat your Inbox like a To Do list, then this can seem overwhelming. Gmail has decided that one way to tackle this is by prioritizing your e-mail. You assist Gmail’s built-in brain by marking e-mails up or down in priority/importance. While this may work for you, you may not wish to spend any incremental time continually training it like a puppy or a child.
Enter OtherInBox. OtherInBox (OIB) assesses all of your e-mail, organizes it based on sender and presents you with a dashboard summary of those messages. It will also summarize and send you a daily digest. The aim here is to get those e-mails out of your way and leave your inbox more slanted to personal messages. …

We’ve covered NFC tech in the past, notably the work done by Nokia and tititag (now touchtag). Now a vendor with a lot more marketplace clout is adding NFC support to one of its products, namely Google to its Android mobile OS.
The next version of Android, v2.3 (Gingerbread) will include support for the industry standard of NFC (Near Field Communications). So how will this benefit you? Well NFC will allow you to interact with other NFC and RFID-tagged devices to perform acts such as transferring money (think credit card payments), ‘beaming’ data, reading info, all by simply coming within range of those devices and with few button presses.
This is welcome news for NFC enthusiasts as it will probably (hopefully) give it a welcome boost in uptake.
Right now, Facebook’s messaging system is rather basic and no one in their right mind would use that predominantly over a real e-mail account, nor could they unless all of their contacts existed and used FB. However, rumor is that they are indeed about to announce a totally revamped system that would include an actual e-mail address (ex: [email protected]).
If this is all true, the announcement will come on Mon 15 Nov in advance of the Web 2.0 Summit conference.
