This is a somewhat surprising news item: Google is now saying that they are targeting mobile users for their services. Why am I surprised? Because I would have thought Google to have been way ahead of the curve on this one. I still remember back in 1999 when browsers were just being introduced into cell phones and lots of websites were already putting out a WML versions of their sites. I’ll be honest and say that I’m not a huge consumer of mobile content, so I’m not up on how much Google already has out there. Their basic search site does work fine in my cell phone’s browser, so no complaints from me there. What’s up Google? Is this one of the areas where Google develops a chink in their armor and allows some little upstart company to explode, much like they did only a few years ago?
